Hi Laurie, the colours are wonderful. I am seeing this in my neighborhood too. Could you tell me which aster you are growing in the photo? Mine finished a few weeks ago, while yours looks so fresh still !
Patty, it is fragrant aster, Symphyotrichum oblongifolium 'Raydon's Favorite'. What a workhorse! It blooms so reliably and fully, and late into the season, despite hard frost and pounding rains. I have taken divisions and each separate division grows and flowers beautifully within a year. I have no luck at all with asters, but this one is the only one I can grow, and boy is it easy. The foliage has a deep musky fragrance when you touch it. A great plant.
